My first attempt at a flip book.

Since Batman’s fall, things are so dangerous on the streets of Gotham that even the crooks feel unsafe. Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are tired of playing by other people’s rules regardless of which side of the law they’re on. These tough ladies have a new agenda that’s all their own, and they’ll use any means necessary to pursue it. But can they get along and work as a team? And who will get hurt along the way? And how will the police feel about thie new Batman — and can he control the crime in Gotham the way the old Batman did? Commissioner Gordon’s about to find out as he teams with the new Batman to combat the fiery threat that Firefly has spread across Gotham City. In a secret bar within the city where magic is used to keep the peace, heroes and villains gather to enjoy a pint and talk about their days. But what happens when the magical barriers that prevent fighting are dropped and a building full of heroes and villains confront each other all at once? Knight and Squire have to find a way to save both friend and foe!

This is a binding of all of John Ostrander’s Star Wars stories up to his two latest series, Agent of the Empire and Dawn of the Jedi. Originally I was going to do this by publication date, but I’ve decided that going by series or topic would be a better idea.

In 1999, the Superman titles saw a massive overhaul in creative talent, probably for the first time since Byrne took over. (Before that, it was just one or two creators changing at a time.) As a result, the series take on a different tone, and sometimes, it’s hard to believe that we’re reading the same Superman, especially once we get past Infinite Crisis.

This map is still rough, as I’m working on getting the Byrne/Ordway/Jurgens eras done first. That, and things do get a bit confusing after the titles unlink, and especially as Infinite Crisis approaches.

The City of Tomorrow
Superman 151-152
AoS 573
MoS 95
Action 762
Y2K 1
Superman 154
AoS 576
MoS 98
Action 763

(Already out of exact triangle number order. I don’t know why the Y2K special wasn’t released immediately before parts 2-5. Anyway, I originally had the trade for Y2K – called Endgame – but flawed binding led me to bind it.)

Critical Condition
Superman 155
AoS 577
MoS 99
Action 764
Superman 156
AoS 578

Emperor Joker (TPB)
Action 769
Emperor Joker 1
Superman 161
AoS 583
MoS 105
Action 770

Lex 2000
Superman 162-163
AoS 584
MoS 106
Action 771
AoS 585
MoS 107
Action 772-773
Superman 164
Lex 2000
AoS 586-588
MoS 108
Superman 165
MoS 109
Action 774
MoS 110
Action 775
President Luthor Secret Files

(At this point, the creators basically said they weren’t going to be following the strict linkage and triangle/shield numbers. Adventures of Superman causes a bit of a problem here because it’s trying to tell its own story, but still links in with various ongoing plot points.)

Return to Krypton
Superman 166-167
AoS 589
MoS 111
Action 776
Superman 168
Detective Comics 756
AoS 590
MoS 112
Action 777
Superman 169
AoS 591
MoS 113
Action 778
Superman 170
AoS 592
MoS 114
Action 779

Our Worlds at War
Superman 171
GL: OWAW
AOS 593
Batman: OWAW
MOS 115
Action 780
Superman 172
JLA: OWAW
OWAW SF
AOS 594
MOS 116
WW 172
Action 781
Superman 173
AOS 595
MOS 117
WW 173
Action 782
WF: OWAW

(With OWAW, I was trying to keep the book as Superman-centric as possible, but still keep in the tie-ins I found interesting – like Batman. Wonder Woman was getting a lot of good reviews at this time, but a lot of those issues recap what was going on in the Superman issues. I dropped WW 171 and WW: OWAW from this book because they didn’t really contribute much to the ongoing plot.)

Casualties of War
Superman 174
AOS 596
MOS 118
Action 783
Superman 175
AOS 597
MOS 119
Action 784
AoS 598
MoS 120
Action 785
Superman 177
AoS 599
MoS 121
Action 786
AoS 600
Superman 178

(I opted to skip Joker: Last Laugh. If you were to bind that, move the first four issues of this volume to the end of OWAW to serve as epilogues. Also, it was at this point that they finally dropped the triangle/shield numbers completely.)

Volume 43
MoS 122-127
Action 787-790
Superman 179
AoS 601-602
Superman 181
AoS 603-605
Action 791
Superman 182-183

(Most of the volumes on this list after OWAW are still in flux, and I’ll probably be moving issues around. But the actual order of issues probably won’t change much.)

Return to Krypton II
Action 792
Superman 184
AoS 606
MoS 128
Action 793
Superman 185
AoS 607
MoS 129

(Action 794 was a subpar fill in flashback issue. I might include it here for completeness sake.)

Ending Battle
Superman 186
AoS 608
MoS 130
Action 795
Superman 187
AoS 609
MoS 131
Action 796

(There is a TPB of this. I’m not sure if I’m going to get it or bind the story.)

Volume 46
Superman 188
AoS 610
MoS 132
Action 797
Superman 189
AoS 611
MoS 133
Action 798
MoS 134
Superman vs Darkseid 1
Action 799, 801-805
Superman/Batman Secret Files

(Action 800 was a flashback to Superman’s early years, and will go in my Superman Through the Ages book. The first Superman/Batman trade will also go right about here.)

Metafictional
AoS 612-623

(This is the bulk of Joe Casey’s run on AoS once he was finally able to fully let loose.)

Man of Tomorrow
Superman: 10 Cent Adventure
Superman 190-195
Action 806-810
Superman 196-200

(I really wanted to keep this isolated to the Seagle/McDaniel run in Superman. However, Joe Kelly wrote some stories in Action using a character Seagle introduced, and that character didn’t exist past 200.)

Godfall
Action 811
AoS 624
Superman 201
Action 812
AoS 625
Superman 202
Action 813
AoS 626
Superman 203

(There is a TPB of Godfall, but it doesn’t include the first three issues here that comprise of the Majestic arc. Also, the second Superman/Batman TPB introducing Supergirl goes somewhere around one of these volumes.)

Volume 50
Superman Secret Files 2004
Action 814-820
AoS 627-632
Action 821-825
AoS 633-638, 640-641

For Tomorrow
Superman 204-215

From this point on, we’re in Infinite Crisis mode. There are two hurdles with mapping this era. First, the Simone/Byrne run of Action doesn’t really match up with the other two series for the most part. Second, with Infinite Crisis and it’s lead-ins weaving in and out of the Superman books, you can’t just remove the IC tie-ins and leave the rest and keep a coherent storyline. But, on the other hand, trying to include all of them really does a disservice to Infinite Crisis.

Unlike other company crossovers, I do not plan to have Infinite Crisis stored within my Superman collection.

Currently, I have the Sacrifice crossover bound with The OMAC Project, and the last few issues of each series before OYL are bound with IC itself. My complete Infinite Crisis map is here.

So, I see a few options for these issues.

Option 1: Keep Superman as separate as possible, but avoid duplication

Day of Vengeance (TPB)
Action Comics 826
Adventures of Superman 639
Superman 216
Day of Vengeance 1-6

Volume 52
Superman/Batman 19
Superman 217
Action 827-828
Superman 218
Action 833-835

The OMAC Project
Countdown to Infinite Crisis
The OMAC Project 1-3
Superman 219
Action 829
Adventures of Superman 642
Wonder Woman 219
The OMAC Project 4
Wonder Woman 220
Adventures of Superman 643
The OMAC Project 5-6

Crisis Counseling
Superman 220-221
Action Comics 830-831
Adventures of Superman 644
Superman 222
Adventures of Superman 645
Superman 223
Adventures of Superman 646-647
Superman 224-225

Infinite Crisis
includes AoS 648-649, Superman 226, Action 836

Option 2: Keep the Superman narrative moving, don’t worry about duplication, but still have a DCU-wise Infinite Crisis book

Crisis Counseling
Superman/Batman 19
Superman 217
Action 827-828
Superman 218
Action 833-835
Superman 219
Action 829
Adventures of Superman 642
Wonder Woman 219
Adventures of Superman 643
Superman 220-221
Action Comics 830-831
Adventures of Superman 644
Superman 222
Adventures of Superman 645
Superman 223
Adventures of Superman 646-647
Superman 224-225

Infinite Crisis
includes AoS 648-649, Superman 226, Action 836

(In this option, OMAC Project as mapped above is still its own book. The three part Day of Vengeance tie-in may or may not be bound into Crisis Counseling.)

Option 3: Just focus on Superman.
Crisis Counseling
Superman/Batman 19
Action Comics 826
Adventures of Superman 639
Superman 216
Superman 217
Action 827-828
Superman 218
Action 833-835
Superman 219
Action 829
Adventures of Superman 642
Wonder Woman 219
Adventures of Superman 643
Superman 220-221
Action Comics 830-831
Adventures of Superman 644
Superman 222
Adventures of Superman 645

Infinite Crisis
Infinite Crisis 1
Superman 223
AoS 646-647
Superman 224
Infinite Crisis 2-3
Superman 225
Infinite Crisis 4 (first 6 pages)
Adventures of Superman 648
Infinite Crisis 4 (remaining pages)
Infinite Crisis Secret Files
Infinite Crisis 5 (up to Superman smashing the car)
Superman 226
Action Comics 836
Adventures of Superman 649
Infinite Crisis 5 (rest of issue)
Infinite Crisis 6
Infinite Crisis 7

So, this map is very tricky, especially at the end, which is why I’ve waited so long to post it, and why I’m saving it for last to actually bind.

The Superman map continues, with One Year Later up to the Flashpoint reboot.

These are the issues that go between Brand New Day and Spider Island.

If a backup story is not listed, then it is not moved. I left the Infested backups in because too many of them shared story pages. There was discussion and apparently Dan Slott said that the Free Comic Book Day issue should be read somewhere around #664. However, due to scenes involving Shang-Chi, and references to the Anti-Venom arc, the FCBD book has to go where I have listed it.

The annuals are optional, since none are written by Slott.

In the wake of Second Coming, the X-Men deal with the changes in their world. Friends have died, lives are changed-but is that a light on the horizon? The new world begins here! After suffering heavy damage during Bastion’s attack on mutantkind, the city of San Francisco is rebuilding. Hoping to aid in the reconstruction effort, Cyclops tasks a team of X-Men – including the newly arrived mutant messiah, Hope – to lend a hand. But when something goes terribly wrong, will the X-Men lose everything they fought for?

Then New Mutants who are still left are licking their wounds on a forced R & R trip. While they try and put themselves back together, others are looking to take them apart. A strange secretive military group has an agenda involving Illyana Rasputin. And they don’t want to give her a medal. Finally, Wolverine promised Cyclops that X-Force would disband–he lied. A secret society has resurrected En Sabah Nur, putting into motion events that will turn this age of heroes into an Age of Apocalypse! To hold them back, Wolverine and Archangel bring together Fantomex, Deadpool and Psylocke to form The Uncanny X-Force! Stained by their history, they are the only ones capable of making the hard resolutions necessary. A band of likeminded friends and mercenaries set to one purpose, one big ugly task–kill Apocalypse by any means.

Someone believes that Bruce Wayne may still be alive…and that someone is Red Robin. But who is wearing the Red Robin costume, and why is he traveling the globe looking for a dead man? Whoever he is, he’s not alone in his search and has been targeted by the League of Assassins.

Plus Stephanie Brown, the vigilante formerly known as The Spoiler and Robin has taken on the identity of Batgirl as she begins her nocturnal crusade to take back the night from the underworld. Now she has become the target of both Gotham City’s heroes (who don’t take kindly to a new person wearing the cape and the cowl) and its villains (who want to see the entire Bat-family six feet deep!)

Two volumes to cover Brubaker’s run. The Marvel Omnibus Editions almost got it right.

Volume 1: The Devil His Due

Daredevil 82-94
Daredevil Annual 1
Daredevil 95-105

Volume 2: Hell to Pay

Daredevil 106
Daredevil: Blood of the Tarantula 1
Daredevil 107-119
Daredevil 500

The annual was released the same month as #101, which was part 2 of 6, so it couldn’t go during that arc. Looking after #105, and it just doesn’t fit Matt Murdock’s mood. It has to take place prior to Blood of the Tarantula, which was actually released in lieu of a regular monthly issue between #106-107. So, looking backward, the only place to put the annual is after #94.

#100 and #500 have backup features and reprints. I left all of it in #500 because it was in the back, and space wasn’t an issue. Normally I would have chopped out the reprint, but I didn’t feel like reprinting the cover gallery. I did remove the reprints from #100, and move the rest of the backup material to the end of volume 1.

Grant Morrison’s run can fit into two volumes, with a third companion volume of issues that came out during the same time.

Volume 1

JLA 1-9
JLA 10-15
New Year’s Evil: Prometheus
JLA 16-17, 22-23

JLA 24-26, 28-31, 34, 36-41
JLA Classified 1-3

The Grant Morrison Companion

JLA: Midsummer’s Nightmare 1-3
JLA Secret Files 1
Tomorrow Woman 1
JLA Annual 1
JLA Secret Files 2
JLA 18-21
JLA Annual 2
JLA 27

The Companion has all of the fill in issues and ancillary stories from the era. They are arranged in chronological order, which might not be exact publishing order. JLA Annual 3 is in my JLApe volume.

JLA #32-33 are in my No Man’s Land volumes, otherwise they would go in the Companion. JLA 35 will be bound with Day of Judgment.

DC One Million fits exactly between volumes 1 and 2. That was by design.
