Back to Revolution

Volume 49: E is for Extinction

Forming an all-new team are the veterans Storm, Bishop, Psylocke, Thunderbird, Rogue and Beast. They are joined by new mutants including Sage. Together, they are charged with finding the mysterious Books of Destiny’ journals on which the fate of the world rests. Chamber graduates from Generation X just in time to enjoy the (ahem) celebrity status of being an X-Man but when his whirlwind romance with a pop star hits the tabloids, is Chamber just the flavor of the month?

With an army of evolved Sentinels primed for annihilation, Cassandra Nova will stop at nothing to see every mutant exterminated from the planet. Led by Professor Xavier, the X-Men have always sought an end to the ongoing strife between mutants and humans, hoping to one day unite the two species in peaceful coexistence. But the time for dreams is past. Now, their entire existence is under direct attack. Now, it is time for the X-Men to fight.

The X-Men investigate a mutant brothel in Nevada and gain a troubled new member, the seductive Stacy X! But when the bigoted zealots from the Church of Humanity target all mutants for genocide, can the team’s two newest members pull their weight? Then, distraught over his true love’s death, Banshee forms a paramilitary mutant team to keep the peace in Europe. But something sinister lurks beneath his good intentions. Who’s really pulling the strings?

As protesters lay siege to the Xavier Institute, mutant mentor Professor X lies in a coma dying, trapped within the shattered form of his evil twin! Cassandra Nova inhabited Xavier’s body and escaped to the stars in the wake of her initial encounter with the X-Men. Now, the psionically empowered psychopath is returning to Earth with the might of the Shi’ar Imperium at her back! She brought an interstellar empire to its knees. Can even the X-Men hope to halt her mad rampage?

When Cain Marko summons the X-Men to help his criminal partner Black Tom Cassidy he surprises everyone including himself by accepting his hated stepbrother Professor X’s offer to join the X-Men! And he’s not the only new face at the Xavier Institute as Northstar and Husk join the teaching staff, troubled young Sammy Paré enrolls at the school and the comatose Havok is found!

Reverend William Stryker, a religious zealot with a plan for genocide for mutants, attempted years ago to harness the telepathic abilities of Charles Xavier in order to destroy the minds of mutants on a global scale. Only by uniting with Magneto were the X-Men able to overcome their foe. Now Stryker is back and his extereme hatred for mutants rages as strong as ever. With a a squad of mutant hating mercenaries and the recruitment of Lady Deathstrike, Stryker strikes once more to take down the the X-Men.

Then Dani’s new class of mutants learn that the future is not promised! Maybe they can come into their own if they aren’t killed by threats like the Reavers, the hate group Purity or each other! In a special tribute to William Shakespeare’s most beloved work, Romeo & Juliet, a riveting tale unfolds about a young human and a young mutant falling in love, and what terrible consequences it will have not only for them, but for their family and friends.

Finally Mystique has used her powers to go against the X-Men in their battle for mutant-human coexistence for years, but in this complicated world, Mystique begins to find the battle lines are no longer so clear. In exchange for protection, Mystique reluctantly agrees to work for Charles Xavier. But instead of being invited to join the X-Men, Mystique is asked to participate in politically sensitive operations as a secret agent. Can this former mutant-rights terrorist be trusted?

This volume is for alternate timeline stories that does not directly affect the regular Marvel Universe (at the time of publication). I tried to place them close to the X-Men stories that they spin off from. For example X-Men the End takes us to an alternate future that picks up threads from Claremont’s run. You can also include his GeNeXt run in this volume but I saved it for Alternative Visions II.

Finally putting to rest their own recent past, the X-Men embark on an all-new, all-different era of excitement! Cyclops and Emma Frost re-form the X-Men with the express purpose of “astonishing” the world. But when breaking news regarding the mutant gene unexpectedly hits the airwaves, will it derail their new plans before they even get started? As demand for the “mutant cure” reaches near-riot levels, the X-Men go head-to-head with the enigmatic Ord, with an unexpected ally and some unexpected adversaries tipping the scales!

When everyone’s favorite shape-shifting secret agent is sent to Europe to investigate a biotech company rumored to be using mutants as guinea pigs, she discovers a mystery far greater than anything she’d imagined! As Mystique and Shortpack get closer to their objective, they must confront a new revelation: that someone is selling transient mutants as guinea pigs, slaves and worse! Will Mystique go after this mutant-selling scum, or will she allow her personal crisis to tear her apart first?

Volume 56.01: Wolverine Coyote Crossing (Pending)

The 2003 Wolverine series crosses over into the X-Men a lot after issue 19. It did not make sense to bind the title on it’s own. The first three story arcs as well as Old Man Logan do not fit in anywhere with the X-Men so I opted to make them their own bind. I may update this volume with miscellaneous stories.

The Xavier Institute students thought they had it tough when Professor X was running things but now Cyclops and Emma Frost are in charge! As a new semester begins, the students adopt code names and costumes, and are separated into training squads…and Dani Moonstar’s New Mutants soon find themselves feuding with Emma Frost’s Hellions.

The X-Men investigate a series of mysterious murders in New York City. All the victims seem to have been cut to pieces by blades…Adamantium blades! But if Wolverine didn’t murder these people, then who did?! Plus: While on assignment to track down missing teammate Sage, the X-Men discover more than they bargained for: the birth of a newer and deadlier Hellfire Club!

Then, welcome to Mutant Town, the dark corner of New York City where the long arm of the law has been severed clean. Here, the mutant population doesn’t sport GQ-style or champagne dreams. They eke out each day in squalid tenement rows and filthy streets where only one man and one law can be trusted: the X-Man Bishop.

Professor Xavier has now assembled his ragtag team of Magneto and Callisto with youngsters Wicked, Freakshow and Shola under their tutelage. Already struggling to keep the peace in Genosha, as well as between themselves, will the team have the strength to get to the bottom of simultaneous terrorist attacks on X-Corp offices around the world? Plus: Magneto has returned to Genosha, and he’s got someone with him…someone who promises to shake things up for Professor X and his newly formed team!

Then Someone…or something…is haunting the halls of the Xavier Institute, and it’s up to the X-Men-in-training to get to the bottom of it! Can the New Mutants find a way to bring peace to this tortured being before they become the tortured?

Finally, the mysterious and powerful Phoenix Force is life incarnate, and yet it consumes whole worlds in a moment. Its long history with the X-Men is fraught with tragedy… especially concerning one of the most beloved of their number, Jean Grey. What will happen when the Phoenix returns to Earth in search of the one mortal who could ever contain its power… only to find her dead?

Ever wonder what Gambit gets up to when he’s not out saving the world with the X-Men? Welcome to the exciting but treacherous terrain of the New Orleans underworld, where Gambit’s skills and mastery are unquestioned but this time, his confidence might be his downfall! Gambit has faced some risky jobs, but this may be his most dangerous yet: He’ll have to infiltrate the heavily-fortified home of the world’s most powerful mutants. That’s right…Gambit’s got to swipe something right from under the noses of his teammates, the X-Men!

Then Nightcrawler’s back but for how long?! As a badly injured Kurt lies on the brink of death, moments of his life flash before his eyes. Unfortunately, these memories are not how he remembered. Is his past a lie? Could the sins of his murderous brother be paid for by Nightcrawler? Or is Kurt actually responsible for atrocities even he finds unspeakable?!
