However, if you’re interested in this hobby, I’d like to recommend the online tutorial at Indiana University’s Library Press. It’s a well documented and photographed, step-by-step guide that shows the entire binding process. They even use a stack of paper/pamphlets that resemble comic books.

So, anyone going to try and do their own books now?

Since I’m just starting to work on my first set of binds, but I want to contribute some content, I thought I’d post a quick grab of one of my custom covers I’m working on. The first batch of books I send off to LBC will all have custom covers. I wanted some sort of template to use – thinking I’d have different ones for Marvel and DC.

Using the Essential and Showcase volumes as a starting point, here’s what I’ve got so far for Shogun Warriors 1-20 (and Fantastic Four #226).

Still very much a work in progress – but it’s getting close. I’ve got to come up with a consistent spine design. Might use something similar to the DC Showcase Presents books and change it up a little for Marvel.

The background on the back cover is a page from Shogun Warriors #1 with a half-tone filter applied and then the colors overlaid on it. I think it came out looking pretty cool.

Here’s a quick and important note about creating new posts.

You’ll see this information on the right of the screen when creating a new post:

When you are working on a post (map, gallery, blog, etc.), use the Save Draft button to save your work. The system automatically saves a draft every few minutes for you as well. Use the Save Draft button to work on something, save it, and come back and work on it more later.

Use the Submit for Review button to let us know it’s ready for the public to see. When you’re done editing your draft, Submit for Review and one of the site administrators will approve and publish the post.

Posts marked as Draft will be ignored. Posts marked as Pending (Submitted for Review) will be published ASAP.

When creating or uploading images to the site, all images must be smaller than 2MB. Most images will always fall way under that size, unless you’re uploading artwork to share – if that’s the case follow the Guidelines for Sharing Files.

The maximum resolution on image uploads is 1024 x 1024. Anything larger will be resized to to 1024 width or height – whichever is larger. Again, for sharing artwork (covers, contents, dust jackets) follow the Guidelines for Sharing Files to upload full resolution images.

All images will have a thumbnail created, sized to 300 x 190, when displayed on the site.

Images for downloads will be displayed at the 300 x 190 size – so when linking to offsite images, keep the file size close to that to reduce page loading time.
