Volume 119: Disassembled Part 2

Cyclops and Wolverine are together again and they’re mutantkind’s only hope! After the devastating events of “X-Men Disassembled,” it falls to Scott Summers to rebuild the X-Men in the face of overwhelming hatred. Thankfully, he’s not the only X-Man to have just returned from oblivion. Drawing together a new team from the ashes, Cyclops and Wolverine turn their eyes to setting an all-new agenda. Cyclops has a list of matters the X-Men must address but the Mutant Liberation Front has its own plans! Led by one of the X-Men’s own, the MLF is willing to do whatever it takes to stop the oppression of Homo superior even if that means killing any mutant who stands in their way!

Meanwhile, the mutant race faces elimination at the hands of a vaccine that will erase the X-Gene from future generations. As Cyclops’ cleanup mission nears its close, all the problems the X-Men have faced will come together! The Hellfire Club’s sinister plans, the culmination of the O.N.E.’s assaults on mutantkind and even the inner struggles within the team. It all ends here. This is forever!

Cable’s clone Stryfe and his Mutant Liberation Army will do anything to protect their future and destroy the Clan Askani. Who will X-Force stand with? Will they end up trapped in the future? Volume 105: The ResurrXion

Lots of debate on how to handle the Jean Grey book as well as Kid Omega’s role as Phoenix.  I set my volumes up with the Jean Grey title first as to build the suspense of the Phoenix returning.

When the teenage Marvel Girl traveled through time and arrived in the present, she learned the terrible fate that befell her adult counterpart. Possessed by a cosmic entity called the Phoenix, that Jean Grey was trapped in an endless cycle of life and death. Now, determined to escape that future, young Jean sets out to write her own destiny. But when she has a premonition that the Phoenix is coming for her, she’ll have to fight tooth and nail not to become its next victim!

In the wake of their war with the Inhumans, the X-Men are at a crossroads, where do they go from here? Luckily, one beloved X-Man has the answer to that question.  Now, Xavier’s dream comes full circle as Kitty Pryde returns to lead the team into a golden future! Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Rachel Grey and Old Man Logan will renew their mission to protect a world that hates and fears them, as the next chapter in the saga of the X-Men begins!

Like a bolt from the blue, the original X-Men reunite like never before! Volume 106: Secret Empire

Companion volume to the Secret Empire Event!

Captain America has been revealed to be an agent of Hydra and now he’s coming for the Inhumans! But S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Daisy Johnson, a.k.a. Quake, wants no part of Hydra and is heading underground! Recruiting Ms. Marvel, Moon Girl, Devil Dinosaur, Karnak and Inferno to her cause, she’ll fight to set things right not just for the Inhumans, but for the entire country!

The X-Men are caught up in the epic Secret Empire event! But what does the new landscape of the Marvel Universe mean for mutantkind? How will Jean, Cyclops, Beast, Angel and Iceman survive in a world dominated by Hydra? And what exactly does Magneto have up his sleeve?

Decades ago, the Weapon X Program produced the deadliest mutant killers on the planet. Volume 107: Mojo Worldwide

Blue and Gold, together at last! Mojo, the demented creature obsessed with melding deadly TV shows with reality, has made Earth his focus and it will take the combined might of two teams of X-Men to fight back! But when threats from their past are thrown at them, including Sentinels and the Brood, how will the squads react? Flooded by bad memories, can Kitty and Jean lead their X-Men to save Manhattan? Or will tricks like, oh, say, the Dark Phoenix be exactly what Mojo needs to finally deliver the ratings hit he’s longed for? The mighty mutants will have to take the fight to Mojoworld itself if they have any hope of stopping the absurd Mojo-fication of Midtown Manhattan!

And as if that’s not enough, Iceman and his younger counterpart must team up, to face their parents! The Drakes have discovered the existence of the time-torn teen but what are their true motives for engineering a meeting? And as Bobby looks to make his move to the City of Angels permanent, Daken resurfaces with big plans for Iceman and the X-Mansion! Why has the son of Wolverine been training Bobby’s former student? Whatever the answer, it’s bad news for the X-Men. Iceman to the rescue!

Volume 108: Orphans of X

Daken has been kidnapped, and it’s up to Wolverine to find him. But when his trail brings her back to the Facility, the place that tortured and created her, what new horrors will Laura find cooking there? Who, exactly, are the Orphans of X? How are they connected to the Wolverine? And what do they know about Laura and her past?

The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants is back and deadlier than ever! As the Gold squad bids farewell to one of its own and faces its most devastating loss, what exactly is wrong with Rachel Summers? Volume 109: Phoenix Resurrected

Volume 110: If He Dies, He Dies

But the militia they must take down isn’t full of your ordinary run-of-the-mill soldiers. These guys are powered by the same red pills taken by the super soldier known as Nuke! With the original five X-Men lost in space, Emma Frost, Havok, Bastion and Miss Sinister hatch their devious plans and unleash Project: Mothervine! Meanwhile, Jimmy Hudson and Bloodstorm feel the wrath of Polaris once again a victim of the body-stealing Malice! And with his mutant charges missing, Magneto mobilizes against his enemies. The original five’s absence means a new team of X-Men must take their place. Volume 112: The Hunt for Wolverine

 I really did not enjoy the Hunt for Wolverine as an event.  Some titles were cool but it definitely does not blend well with the rest of the X-Books.  Since I did not enjoy it I decided to keep it all in volume instead of mixing it in with the other books.

Wolverine is back – but where is he? Just as the X-Men have finally come to terms with Logan’s death, a terrible secret means old wounds are reopened, truths are questioned, and an epic quest begins across the Marvel Universe. But who will solve the puzzle first? Will it be Daredevil and his crack squad of investigators, including Misty Knight? Or Logan’s former fellow New Avengers, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage? Or perhaps Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike and Daken will be the ones to track him down! With mystery in Madripoor and around the globe, the return of Wolverine will keep you guessing!

A fresh start for Weapon X! They were hunters who became the hunted. They were enemies forced to become allies. They were a ticking time bomb that had no choice but to fall apart! Now, out of the ashes of Team Weapon X, a new crew is born! Sabretooth leads a unit willing to do what the other X-Men won’t: to wade into blood and filth to protect mutantkind! Volume 114: 2 Birthdays and 3 Funerals

Volume 1: X-Tenuating Circumstances

Volume 2: Assault on Greymalkin

X-Cutioner’s Song, the X-Men story so big, it took four books to contain it! When Cyclops and Phoenix are kidnapped, and Cable seemingly assassinates Professor X, the X-Men, X-Factor and X-Force go to war…with each other! Volume 4: Under One Roof

A new era begins as Cable revamps his mutant strike team and relocates to the X-Mansion, where Cannonball ‘graduates’ to the X-Men, and Boomer becomes unhealthily attached to the murderous prisoner named Sabretooth! But when Cable’s wife, Aliya, returns from the future with a dire warning, he’ll be swept up in a time-traveling battle to save his younger self from his arch-nemesis Stryfe!

In the aftermath of the battle with Onslaught, Cable’s techno-virus is out of control, and his life hangs in the balance. Can he pull himself together in time to help Domino save their old “friends” Garrison Kane and Copycat from the maddening Psycho-Man? Elsewhere, X-Force must survive the madness of Mojoworld and unravel the mystery of Shatterstar’s true identity!

Then, Zero tolerance maximum action! As the U.S. government’s mutant-hunting Prime Sentinels target the villainous Mutant Liberation Front, X-Force is caught in the middle! What is their old friend Dani Moonstar doing with the MLF? And when the Sentinels capture half the team, can the ragtag remainder pull together to rescue them? Meanwhile, an old foe with an ax to grind targets Domino, and X-Force breaks away from Cable and hits the road! But their cross-country trip may prove fatal for Warpath, who’s in for a hellish time, with Stryfe!

Volume 6: New Deviants New Hellions

Still road tripping! As Sunspot and Meltdown get close X-Force attends the Exploding Colossal Man and find a whole lot of trouble, plus Karma! Then the truth of Bobby’s connection to the ruthless Reignfire is finally revealed but can they both survive? Then Moonstar runs afoul of the Deviants! And Domino battles…Shatterstar?!

Then the Hellions return! X-Force’s newest member, Jesse Bedlam, has finally found his long-lost brother. But the reunion won’t be what he expected! “King Bedlam” plans to awaken the deadly Armageddon Man, and the team backing him up includes some familiar faces! Can X-Force triumph against former friends and family to avert a nuclear nightmare? Plus: X-Force teams up with the Champions, Siryn is silenced, Domino faces the horror of Halloween Jack, and Rictor and Shatterstar return.

Volume 7: Bad Company

Like all mutants, X-Force must face a callous and deadly world but now they’ve been trained for it by Peter Wisdom, one of the most callous and deadly mutants of all! The proactive paranormal platoon faces a city transformed by Cold War mad science and a mutant druglord terrorist, but will their deadliest enemies be Wisdom’s long-lost allies? Featuring killer zombies, exploding buildings and international subterfuge in the form of Russian Warborgs sent to kill!

Unfortunately, Marvel ended the compendium trades after “Trials of X”, so I switched to a mix of individual series trades and single issues for the “Destiny of X” era and then single issues for “Fall of X” and beyond.

I heavily referenced the Way of X blog when putting the map together to determine best chronological order, and the “Arguments” section of that site will explain a lot of issue placements.  Some issue placements have been determined by how the issues were reprinted in the “… of X” trades to minimize “scan-and-print” efforts.

This volume contains issues from Dawn of X volumes 1-7 and 9-11, as well as the X-Men/Fantastic Four TPB.  There is a one page story from Marvel Comics #1000 featuring Apocalypse that I included, and used it as the back side of one of the text pages or covers that I needed to print out.  The reason that the New Mutants issues skip around is that the focus of the book was split – half of the team was in space in issues by Jonathan Hickman, while the other half was still on Earth in issues by Ed Brisson.

I had originally planned on breaking this volume right before Messiah CompleX so you would jump to X-Men bind (Vol 69) to continue to story then come back to volume 2. But it made more sense to just include Messiah CompleX so I added the trade paper back to this bind.

Volume 2: Back and There Again

Following the events of Messiah CompleX, X-Factor Investigations is in shambles. Jamie is a basket case from his trip to a nightmarish future, Layla’s fate is completely in the air, and Wolfsbane has to leave the team to join X-Force – though none of her friends can know about it. What will Wolfsbane tell the X-Factor team? What are they going to do about Layla? How is Jamie coping with his guilt? Get onboard here for X-Factor’s brand-new direction! Plus: He’s gone from the son of one of the world’s greatest villains to one of Earth’s Mightest Heroes and then to one of the world’s greatest villains in his own right. Now, Pietro Maximoff, Quicksilver, the man behind the Decimation of the world’s mutants, finds himself depowered and trapped in a prison cell, where he must confront all the demons of his past.

This bind was another tough call on where to break the volume.  I decided to end it with issue 50 before it goes back to legacy numbering when the next issue is 200.  It’s a thin volume.

As the world’s only mutant detective agency, X-Factor Investigations welcomes all cases the stranger, the better! And their latest gigs involve gods, vampires, the disappearance of the Invisible Woman and the ever-volatile state of mutant politics lurching from a literal Utopia to a damaging Schism! But in the wake of a heartbreaking loss, the team has splintered and Jamie Madrox begins a quest for the answers he needs to feel whole again. What does his future have in store? Volume 4: Breaking Points

I decided to go back and add Uncanny Avengers (2015.2) (as well as some Marvel #1000 single page stories).  Mainly because we get the conclusion to the Red Skull story arc started in the previous volume of Uncanny Avengers (2012).  I did leave out issues 7 and 8 as they tie directly into the Stand Off Avengers event (map coming soon).

Volume 101: The Extraordinary Age

What happened eight months ago that set the Inhumans and X-Men on a collision course? Find out here! The Inhumans travel to Japan where one of the Terrigen Clouds creates a shocking new Inhuman. The X-Men travel to Muir Island where the second Terrigen Cloud causes something truly terrible. When these two events collide a war of catastrophic proportions explodes!

More than ever, hatred and fear has made the world a dangerous place for mutants. Since the discovery that the Terrigen Mists, (the key to unlocking an Inhuman’s hidden potential and powers), are LETHAL to mutants, the X-MEN and INHUMANS have been locked in a cold war. Beware that some of the issues in this stretch are extremely difficult to find at reasonable prices, especially the ones around #75.  I opted for the Complete Collection Volume 4 TPB to handle the first half of the book.  If Volume 5 had existed, I would have opted for that.

The Amazing Spider-Man Family and Web of Spider-Man series were all anthologies that featured other stories along with Spider-Girl.  There are two Spectacular Spider-Girl TPBs that collect all of those issues (along with the Mr. and Mrs. Spider-Man stories used in volume 1 of this map) that might be easier to obtain and bind.

Volume 43: The Twelve

Setting his grand plan for godhood into motion, Apocalypse dispatches his agents to capture the world’s most powerful mutants, the fabled Twelve: Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Iceman, Sunfire, Polaris, Cable, Bishop, Mikhail Rasputin, the Living Monolith and Magneto with hopes to siphon their power, granting him omnipotency. Volume 44: Dark Seduction
